Day 4

After a nice breakfast in the hotel we set out to visit the ossuary , a word I had never heard before. In the 14th centuary the plague killed 30000 people. A mass grave was used. Another 10000 people were added later. This building/site contains the human bones of 40,000 people. They are displayed in many ways - a bone chandelier, mural, sculpture, etc. and mounds of bones. From here we set out to Jakub. I think we would still be looking for this village if not for the GPS. The GPS says turn left and we don’t even see the road. No signs or any indication of a road but there it is a narrow road through the forest. Jakub turned out to be a very pleasant village with a beautiful Romanesque church from the 12th century, one of two or three left in CZ. It is in beautiful condition, but unfortunately it was closed so we couldn’t see the inside. Then we drove around the village to find the house we were considering buying. We found it very easily, in a street just down the road from the church. We liked what we saw so we decided to call the owner and try to offer him a much lower price and see what happens.

From Jakub we drove to a little town of Sternberk to see a castle there. It was cold and rainy so we just walked to the castle and around the little town for an hour and got back on the road. We don’t know why, but from there to Renatka’s house near Ostrava, the GPS lady decided to take us through the smallest possible roads, through forests and God forsaken villages. We thought we were lost many times, but then all of a sudden we would up in the right place --- 2 km from Reni’s house.

Soon after we got there, Janka and Andrzej arrived and we spent a very nice evening in the company of friends and multiple (too many!) bottles of wine.
